According to the Decree of President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on ‘Changes to the Nominal Value of Monetary Units and the Scale of Prices (denomination)’ dated 7 February 2005 new generation currency (AZN) was issued into circulation from 2006 onward (1:5000). The denomination structure of new currency includes 7 denominations of banknotes (1, 5, 10, 20, 50, 100, 200) and 6 denominations of gapiks (1, 3, 5, 10, 20, 50). One manat is divided into 100 (hundred) gapiks.

The security system of coins incorporate a special security feature located at the side of coins, ultrafine elements, tactile surface, technical indicators set for the coin, including its diameter, weight and metal composition.
