According to the relevant decision of the Management Board of the Central Bank of Azerbaijan it was announced that 1, 5 and 50 manat denominations whose design and security elements were renewed within the current concept would be issued to circulation at the beginning of 2021. All commercial banks and non-bank payment organizations were informed accordingly on 20 October 2020 and provided with relevant monetary units to adapt cash systems (cash payment terminals, ATMs, cash-in/cash-out terminals, money counters and processors, money detectors etc.) in use throughout the country to renewed monetary units.
Currently the Central Bank of Azerbaijan is starting to issue to circulation renewed 1, 5, and 50 manat banknotes. The renewed banknotes will be issued to circulation in parts along with the old banknotes of the same denomination currently in circulation.
To note, banknotes currently in circulation will be in circulation in parallel with the renewed currency and be used as a legal tender without any restrictions.
Due to current coronavirus pandemic related restrictions, a number of non-bank payment organizations (Modenis LLC - eManat, Komtec Ltd. - MilliON, Expressbank OJSC - Expresspay) stated that adaptation of cash terminals to renewed currency has not completed yet and that the process is continuing. In this regard, the population is informed that it is advisable to use old-style banknotes in such terminals until completion of the adaptation process.
Additional information on the renewed banknotes can be found on the official website of the Central Bank.
