15 April 2026, Baku: In line with international practice, central banks periodically update the design and security features of banknotes to strengthen protections against counterfeiting, incorporate the latest technologies and innovations, and maintain public confidence.
Reflecting this approach, the Central Bank of Azerbaijan has undertaken a modernization of the country’s national banknotes within the framework of the existing design concept, incorporating advanced innovations, including nano- and microtechnologies. Since 2021, updated 1-, 5-, 10-, 20- and 50-manat banknotes have been introduced into circulation.
As part of this effort, the security features and design of the 100-manat banknote, themed ‘Economy and Growth,’ have been updated within the existing design concept using the latest technologies and innovations.
The Central Bank of Azerbaijan announces that the upgraded 100-manat banknote, featuring a renewed design and the most advanced security elements, will be put into circulation on 15 July 2026.
The upgraded 100 manat banknote incorporates the following state-of-the-art security features: color-changing hologram with a three-dimensional micro-mirror effect; ‘Spark Flow Prime’ element (a color-changing manat symbol emitting a dynamic light effect); watermark (the State of Arms of the Republic of Azerbaijan and denomination visible at light); tactile element (lofting is felt when touching certain parts of the banknote; for people with vision loss), vertical design (following global trends in banknote production, the banknote’s reverse has been designed in a vertical format); security thread; intaglio printing; micro texts, etc.
Upgraded 100-manat banknotes bear the signature of Taleh Tahir Kazimov, Governor of the Central Bank of the Repuyblic of Azerbaijan, depicted on the upper left corner of the front side of the banknote.
Nationwide efforts are underway to ensure that all cash-handling systems and equipment are compatible with the upgraded 100-manat banknote.
Both the upgraded and existing 100-manat banknotes will circulate together and will be accepted as legal tender indefinitely.
